FLMDC is dedicated to the education of metal detector enthusiasts. It is our belief that through helping a person enjoy this hobby in a responsible manner, the whole society of metal detector owners will benefit through positive public awareness. Events FLMDC membership and meetings offer a variety of opportunities.
Detector Clinics: Where members bring their machines in for troubleshooting, operating tips, demonstrations, comparison, and maintenance ideas.
Guest Experts: Local authorities on history, tokens, coins, and metal detectors appear at meetings to inform our members and guests and to answer questions.
Find Of The Month Competition: A fun way to show off your best finds, and score points with your fellow members toward a possible goal of Hunter of the Year.
Monthly Raffles: A chance to add to your rapidly growing coin collection. Old silver coins and commemorative silver dollars comprise the bulk of the prizes won every month.
Field Competitions: Several times a year our club holds 'hunts', where members pay a small fee for the chance to find and keep coins and tokens for prizes in a pre-planted field. There are advantages to speed, but anyone can get lucky, and the emphasis is on fun, which is difficult to avoid.
Group Outings: Members occasionally offer to lead a group of coinshooters to a site he or she has researched to search for coins. On one such outing, several members found their oldest coins, dating into the mid-1800's.
Hunting Buddies: It is always more fun to make a good find if there is someone along to share the excitement. FLMDC offers the opportunity to meet people similarly enthusiastic about the hobby.
Monthly Newsletters: News about the club, metal detecting tips, treasure hunting stories, member profiles, and clues to possible hunting sites can be found within its pages.
